Made possible by the Office of the Chancellor Initiative Request Fund, the purpose of the staff development grant is to seed campus-based staff and leadership development efforts throughout the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities.

Project: Attitude is Everything
Description: Continuation of previous year’s training for 200 staff members. Subject matter experts present on six informational "brown bag" sessions, three on each campus. Sessions are videotaped and placed on D2L site as "encore presentations."

Project: Getting Employees Engaged: Creating Mission Understanding and Mission Achievement
Description: Training BSU & NTC employees to take charge of their careers and their satisfaction by participating in self-assessment to learn what "makes them tick, what motivates them to succeed, and what they want for their own futures." The workshop assists staff and faculty to determine and discuss their strengths, abilities, skills and what they feel passionate about in their professional and work lives.

Project: Collaborative Employee Engagement Using a Strengths-Based Approach
Description: Train and establish a "Strengths Advocate" on campus who will advance a strength-based staff development initiative. The initiative includes a train-the-trainer seminar to assist supervisors in identifying employee strengths, and follow-up workshops for DCTC staff.

Project: LSC Leaders
Description: Two-year, cohort-based leadership program for 16 employees dedicated to the development of extraordinary leaders. The program was designed to provide participants with extensive interaction with respected leaders in the system and the community. It provides employees opportunities for self-reflection, skills analysis, and for personal and professional development planning.

Project: Mesabi Range Learning Institute – Promoting Staff Development Opportunities

Minnesota State Community & Technical College/Moorhead Project: Enhancing Staff and Faculty Development Through Behavior Intervention Training
Description: Provide further training for the Moorhead campus CARE team, a group of college administration, faculty and staff organized for the purpose of communication and behavior intervention. The CARE team is charged with upholding college policies and maintaining a healthy environment for the MSCTC community. Project: Communication Presentation for Classified Staff
Description: A discussion of communication and the work place, with an emphasis on bullying recognition and prevention, and effective communication techniques. The presentation features Chris Heeter of the Wild Institute and will be customized to meet the needs of MSU Mankato, South Central College and the University’s dining staff. The goals include boosting morale of frontline staff, increasing self-worth, and creating an atmosphere of positive energy.

Project: Using Hyperion/BRIO Dashboards and Institutional Accountability Measures to Encourage Data-Enhanced Decision Making
Description: Improve decision making on campus by training select staff, administrators and faculty department chairs in accessing the Hyperion/Brio dashboards and using the dashboards and institutional accountability measures. Provides in-depth training for 40 employees, plus training for ITS staff on implementation and use.

Project: Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Certificate for Employee Development
Description: Provide timely training and certification in Microsoft Office for up to 160 employees at both campuses. Sessions focus on teaching MS Office applications, measuring proficiency, and identifying opportunities for enhancement of skills. Employees can then choose to take the test for the nationally recognized Microsoft Office Specialist certification credential.

Project: High Impact Training – a Day of Chaos and Change
Description: A full day of motivational training for all OOC employees, dealing with change and thriving in the chaos of work and personal life. OOC employees have requested training in communication, support, organization, and team building and this training encompasses those areas.

Description: Staff development day utilizing the LeaderFISH program/tool. The tool helps individuals look at their roles at the institution in a different way, while exemplifying that employees and students are valued. Project: Overview of Lean Applications for MnSCU System Institutions
Description: Development of Lean program for system administrators, directors and supervisors. Lean principles and applications are widely accepted in manufacturing and service industries as a model to create capacity, improve qualify, shorten leaded times, satisfy customers and reduce costs.
