Minnesota State Colleges and Universities
Luoma Leadership Academy Program
Application Process
2009 - 2010 Application Information and Forms
The 2009 - 2010 Leadership Academy program application includes three steps listed below. Your application will not be complete until all materials have been received. The application deadline is February 27, 2009.
1. Application and Essay
The application form includes a brief essay (500 words or less*). You may prepare your essay in a word processing program and then copy and paste it into the application.
Note: if your essay exceeds 500 words, only the first 500 words will be forwarded to the selection committee.
2. Letters of Reference
Please ask two Minnesota State Colleges or Universities leaders to write a letter of reference for you. Leaders could include, but are not limited to: deans, vice presidents, associate vice chancellors, and department chairs. The letter of reference form describes the program, suggests the information to include in the letter of reference, and explains the process for submitting the letter.
3. Supervisor’s and President’s/Vice Chancellor’s Endorsement
Please ask your supervisor to complete the endorsement form, indicating their willingness to support your participation in the Luoma Leadership Academy . After your supervisor signs off on the form, please forward it to your president or vice chancellor for their signature.
Review of Applications
After the application deadline, a selection committee will review all applications and select up to 54 candidates for participation in the program. Applicants will be notified by mid-April as to their status.
Participants must commit to participating in two 5-day sessions and stay overnight at a metro area conference facility/hotel where all sessions will be held. They must also participate in a team-based action learning project throughout the year and plan to devote about 16 hours per month on the project.
Dates are set for July 19-24, 2009 and July 18-23, 2010. The college/university will be responsible for the participant fee, which will be approximately $995 per one-week session, for a total of $1990. All participants selected must have the support and approval of their supervisor and their president/vice chancellor in order to participate in the program.
