Frontline Leadership: Supervisory Training
Frontline leadership is, in many ways, the most important job in any organization. Research continually reinforces the fact that frontline supervisors are integral to employee satisfaction, engagement, and subsequent retention. As the Gallup Organization states, "People join an organization. They leave a supervisor."
To help create an atmosphere where employees stay and thrive, we are excited to offer the following two programs. Taken together, these satisfy the statutory five-day core training requirements for all classified supervisors.
FRONTLINE LEADERSHIP: THE SCIENCE OF SUPERVISION
This two-day program gives supervisors knowledge of the rules, processes, and procedures needed to navigate the environment within the state colleges and universities system. Topics will be presented by Office of the Chancellor staff and will include workers compensation, ethics, data practices, safety, leaves, contracts, and more.

SUPPLEMENTAL LAB CLASSES
Effective Coaching Skills
Do you remember a formal or informal coach who truly helped you in your development? What was it about this person that made a difference? As supervisors, it is easy to get lost in the day-to-day shuffle of directing work and handling your own duties. This session will give you an opportunity to learn and reflect on how to be a coach who truly develops your employees. Special emphasis will be given to hands-on practice and discussion of techniques that have worked in coaching good performance, poor performance, and everything in between.
Effective Conflict Management
The Chinese character for conflict is a combination of the characters for crisis and opportunity. We all can probably identify with the crisis, but what about the opportunity? When managed well, conflict can not only be resolved but also can lead to better ideas and stronger relationships. This interactive workshop will allow participants to reflect on how they handle conflict and learn some tools for managing it better. There will be plenty of time to apply these principles to conflicts that participants may currently be facing.
Facilitating Effective Performance Appraisals
The performance evaluation often gets a bad name. It may be seen as just one more piece of paperwork to complete. When done well, however, the performance evaluation is a powerful performance management tool that can help keep your work unit running smoothly. It is also required by state law, and for good reason. People generally want to know how they're doing. Besides ongoing coaching and feedback, the performance evaluation gives you a formal opportunity to sit down with your employee for an interactive discussion about progress and future plans.
